ABOUT US

About the owner and founder of Romani Heritage Kari Tuominen:

Kari comes from a village in Finland where people have a history of making bags. His mother had a little wholesale business and Kari, already at 15 years of age, started to sell and create his own designs. After his college graduation, Kari moved to Sweden to study economy at the University in Stockholm. He was also living in London for a period in the seventies before settling permanently in Stockholm. In 1977, at the age of 26, Kari opened his first boutique ROMANI selling mostly leather bags from Italy and Finland but also silk scarves, handmade jewelery, and some leather clothes. During this time he worked with many world-leading brand names in high-fashion such as Gucci, Dior, Chanel, Fendi, Gianfranco Ferre and Sonia Rykiel.

Kari has a wide variety of customers including royalty, famous international actors, successful international business executives and most important of all, loyal fashion interested women of all ages. The ROMANI boutique was a multibrand business under a period of almost 35 years, after which Kari decided to work with only one brand; Longchamp.

Longchamp is a very successful French family-owned company which has shops all over the world and Kari is very happy to be a part of a successful venture with this company.

Kari has always enjoyed creating his own designs and that is why ROMANI HERITAGE was born. Today he is designing and manufacturing silver jewelery, silk products, and lacquerware with the support of his Thai co-director Somkiat Jampawong.

They have been fortunate to find quality producers in Thailand and Vietnam. Their silver is manufactured in a little Karen village in the mountains north of Chiang Mai in Thailand and the silk is made by a factory with close ties and history to Jim Thompson. The lacquerware is produced in Vietnam by one family in the third generation. The aim of ROMANI HERITAGE is to create products in harmony with nature and the environment in combination with handmade traditions. “ Life’s more amusing than we thought. ”
